Only a few houses like this cottage are still intact on An Blascaod Mór or the Great Blasket Island. Until the 1950s, the island was still inhabited, and since then, nature has gradually regained most of the former habitations. Some of the former inhabitants of the island, such as Tomás Ó Criomhthains or Peig Sayers, became well-known for their autobiographical tales, in which they wrote about their simple and arduous everyday life on the island.
The Cottage is the September image and also the title image of my Ireland 2017 Calendar.
