Culoo Rock on Valentia Island is a super popular spot for anglers, who fish from the rocks for mackerel in the wild Atlantic waters. On site, a warning sign tells you to avoid the cliffs in heavy swells and strong winds. These were exactly these weather conditions when I took my photo one August morning – shortly after “sunrise”. However, I avoided the cliff edges where the anglers usually seek their fortune and photographed the wild action from a sheltered plateau. Even though the weather was a real challenge and I was constantly busy trying to keep my camera and filters more or less dry, I managed to get some shots that illustrate very well how rough and inhospitable the Atlantic coast can be at times.
