The October image of my Ireland calendar 2017 shows Lough Tay, also called the Guinness Lake, in the Wicklow Mountains. On a ride on the R759 to Sally Gap the road leads above the lake. Although you can see the lake very well from the street, it is advisable to stop at the hiking car park and walk a little cross-country to get an even better view of the lake.
On the northern bank of the lake lays an estate of the Guinness family, who has created an artificial beach with white sand. This is where the name Guinness lake comes from, as the white beach looks like the creamy head on a dark pint of Guinness.
