The man-sized Poulnabrone Dolmen is located in the middle of the Burren in County Clare. I consider it to be one of the most beautiful dolmens in Ireland. The dolmen fits perfectly into the characteristic, rugged karst landscape of the Burren. Grey rocky landscapes as far as the eye can reach and in the middle of it all this monument of stone that rises out of this unique landscape and is nevertheless unmistakably part of it.
Poulnabrone is considered the classic example of a portal tomb or dolmen, of which many have survived in Ireland. The dolmens were built between 4000 – 3000 BC, including the Poulnabrone Dolmen, which is almost 6000 years old.
